RBI Includes Bihar | J&K | West Bengal Gramin Banks as Scheduled

The Reserve Bank of India has decided to include certain Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) in the list of Scheduled Banks, thereby extending scheduled bank status to these institutions.
1. Banks Newly Included in the Schedule
The following banks have been included in the list of Scheduled Banks:
- Bihar Gramin Bank
- J&K Grameen Bank
- West Bengal Gramin Bank
2. Coverage under the RBI Act, 1934
With this inclusion:
- The above banks are now covered under the Second Schedule of the RBI Act, 1934
- They attain the status of Scheduled Banks under the Act
3. Regulatory Implications
Being included in the Second Schedule enables the banks to:
- Access facilities and privileges available to Scheduled Banks
- Enhance institutional credibility and market confidence
- Align with the regulatory framework applicable to Scheduled Banks
The inclusion does not alter the fundamental nature of these institutions as Regional Rural Banks but places them within the scheduled banking framework.
4. Effective Status
The scheduled bank status becomes applicable from the date notified by the RBI in this regard.
