SEBI Panchayati Raj Financial Literacy Initiative 2025

PR No.49/2025, Dated 14.08.2025

SEBI and Ministry of Panchayati Raj Launch Training Initiative

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, has launched a nationwide training program to strengthen financial literacy and investor awareness at the grassroots level. The initiative specifically targets Block-level Panchayat representatives, who play a vital role in guiding communities on financial decision-making.

Focus on Grassroots Financial Literacy

Through this initiative, SEBI aims to build awareness among local governance representatives about key aspects of financial planning, safe investment practices, and the functioning of the securities market. By equipping Panchayat leaders with this knowledge, the program seeks to create informed intermediaries who can further spread financial literacy in rural and semi-urban areas.

First Training Program at YASHADA, Pune

The first training program under this initiative was conducted at YASHADA, Pune, where over 100 Sarpanch and Panchayat representatives participated. The sessions covered essential topics such as budgeting, savings, responsible investing, and identifying fraudulent schemes. The interactive format helped participants relate financial concepts to their community needs.

Empowering Local Communities

By training Panchayat representatives, SEBI and the Ministry of Panchayati Raj aim to empower local communities with practical knowledge of financial security. This grassroots-focused strategy is expected to create a multiplier effect, where informed leaders can guide households toward better financial decisions, thereby contributing to long-term investor protection and financial inclusion.
