NCS Regulations 2025

Notification F. No. CO.DOR.RAUG.No. S4790/07.12.000/2025-2026., Dated: 17.09.2025

1. Background

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a notification amending the Second Schedule to the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934, which contains the list of Scheduled Banks operating in India.

This Schedule includes banks that satisfy the conditions laid down under Section 42(6)(a) of the Act and are thereby eligible for certain privileges, such as access to RBI’s liquidity facilities and inclusion in the clearing house system.

2. Amendment to the Schedule

Under the latest amendment, the name of an existing scheduled bank has been updated to reflect its revised nomenclature. Specifically:

  • The entry “Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Bank Limited, Lucknow” has been replaced with “Uttar Pradesh State Cooperative Bank Limited, Lucknow.”

This change ensures that the official listing of Scheduled Banks remains accurate and aligned with the entity’s legally registered name.

3. Objective of the Amendment

The update has been made to:

  • Reflect the correct and current legal identity of the bank,
  • Maintain consistency between RBI’s records and statutory filings, and
  • Prevent any administrative or legal discrepancies in regulatory or interbank references.

4. Implications

  • The status of the bank as a Scheduled Bank remains unchanged.
  • The amendment is purely nomenclatural and does not affect the bank’s operational rights, obligations, or privileges under the RBI Act, 1934.
  • All regulatory, reporting, and correspondence references should henceforth use the updated nameUttar Pradesh State Cooperative Bank Limited, Lucknow.

5. Conclusion

Through this amendment to the Second Schedule of the RBI Act, 1934, the Reserve Bank of India has updated the official name of the cooperative bank from “Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Bank Limited” to “Uttar Pradesh State Cooperative Bank Limited”, ensuring accuracy in the list of Scheduled Banks and alignment with the institution’s registered identity.
