RBI issues Debt Relief Schemes (DRS) to ensure that Regulated Entities maintain financial discipline while addressing prudential concerns, moral hazards, delays, and claim mismatches in government-backed relief programs. DRS should be a last resort, with full funding provided upfront. These guidelines are issued in consultation with the State Level Bankers’ Committee and District Consultative Committee, ensuring effective and well-designed government relief programs.
