Digital Personal Data Protection Act

Act of Parliament No. 22 of 2023; Dated: 11.08.2023

The President has given her assent to the Digital Personal Data Protect, Act 2023. This Act seeks to provide protection for the personal data of individuals. Accordingly, Personal data may be processed only for a lawful purpose after obtaining the consent of the individual. This Act further requires the Central Government to establish the Data Protection Board of India. The Act also outlines the consequences for different offences including a maximum penalty of Rs 250 crores. It is effective from 11.08.2023.
