TDS on rent payments over Rs 50,000 per month:

If you are paying a monthly rent of Rs 50,000 or more then as per income tax laws, you are required to deduct tax at source (TDS) at the rate of 5 per cent on the rent paid.  Chartered Accountant, Naveen Wadhwa, DGM, Taxmann.com says: “As per tax laws, it is the duty of the tenant to deduct the tax on the total rent paid.
