Re-import of steel for packaging purposes will not be covered under SIMS; Steel Import Monitoring System

Policy Circular No. 38/2015-2020 Dated January 19th, 2022

The DGFT has issued circular to clarify that re-import of steel for packaging purposes will not be covered under Steel Import Monitoring System (SIMS) as it is not primarily meant for value addition.

It is also clarified that SIMS registration would not be required if steel or steel items are exported from DTA to SEZ and then imported from SEZ to DTA irrespective of the fact that these are imported to FTA with value addition or without value addition.
