GSTN Advisory, Dated 04-04-2025
The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has issued an advisory to inform that, effective from 01-06-2025, the Invoice Reporting Portal (IRP) would treat invoice and document numbers as case-insensitive for the purpose of Invoice Reference Number (IRN) generation.
To ensure consistency and avoid duplication, invoice numbers reported in any format (e.g., ‘abc’, ‘ABC’, or ‘Abc’) would be automatically converted to uppercase before IRN generation. This change is in line with the treatment of invoice numbers in Form GSTR-1, wherein such numbers are already considered case-insensitive.
