The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has announced that the Annual Return (GSTR-9) and Reconciliation Statement (GSTR-9C) for the financial year 2024-25 are now available on the GST portal from 12th October 2025 onwards.
1. Availability and Access
Taxpayers can now access, prepare, and file the GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C forms directly through the GST portal. The functionality is live for all eligible taxpayers for FY 2024-25.
2. Pre-Requisites for Filing
Before initiating the filing process, taxpayers are advised to ensure that:
- All monthly or quarterly GSTR-1 (outward supply details) are filed for FY 2024-25.
- All GSTR-3B returns (summary of inward and outward supplies) are filed for the same period.
Filing these returns is mandatory to enable the GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C forms on the portal.
3. Upcoming Guidance and Support
To assist taxpayers with accurate and timely filing, GSTN will soon release a comprehensive FAQ covering:
- The step-by-step filing process for GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C,
- Common issues and resolutions encountered during filing, and
- Key updates or changes applicable for FY 2024-25.
4. Key Takeaway
Taxpayers are encouraged to initiate reconciliations early and ensure all compliance requirements are fulfilled well before the due date. Timely filing of GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C will help avoid last-minute portal congestion and potential penalties.
