1. Overview

The Central Government has appointed Shri Sandip Pradhan, IRS (Income Tax 1990), currently serving as Director General of Income Tax (Investigation), Pune, as a Whole Time Member of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).

2. Tenure of Appointment

Shri Pradhan’s appointment will be:

  • For a period of three years from the date he assumes charge of the post, or
  • Until further orders,

whichever is earlier.

3. Background

Shri Sandip Pradhan is a senior IRS officer with extensive experience in:

  • Tax administration,
  • Investigation and enforcement,
  • Financial oversight, and
  • Regulatory compliance.

His appointment strengthens SEBI’s senior leadership bench with expertise from the direct tax and investigative ecosystem.

4. Significance

This appointment is expected to:

  • Enhance SEBI’s regulatory and enforcement capacity,
  • Support stronger oversight of securities market activities, and
  • Contribute to policy formulation and supervisory functions in line with SEBI’s mandate.
