1. New Zealand Announces Updated Alcohol Excise Duty Rates from 1 July 2025
The New Zealand has announced the annual adjustment to excise and excise-equivalent duty rates on alcoholic beverages, scheduled to take effect on 1 July 2025. The adjustment is based on changes in the Consumer Price Index excluding credit services over the 12-month period ending 31 March 2025.
The rates are summarised as:

2. Canada Introduces Tax Relief and Support Measures for Businesses in Response to Tariffs
In response to the economic pressures created by the imposition of tariffs, the Government of Canada is providing targeted tax relief to support affected businesses and maintain economic stability. These temporary measures are designed to ease financial strain, improve cash flow, and allow businesses to focus on continuity and recovery.
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will implement the following relief measures for businesses during the period from April 2 to June 30, 2025:
- GST/HST remittances can be deferred without penalty.
- No interest will be charged on GST/HST and arrears payments due within the relief period.
- Businesses will also receive interest relief on outstanding GST/HST balances during this time.
These relief measures will be applied automatically. Businesses are not required to submit documentation or prove financial hardship resulting from the tariffs to qualify.
