E-Way Bill 2.0 Portal

GSTN Advisory, Dated 16-06-2025

The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has announced the official launch of the E-Way Bill 2.0 portal, developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC). The new portal will be operational from 01st July 2025 and can be accessed at https://ewaybill2.gst.gov.in.

1. Purpose and Key Improvements

E-Way Bill 2.0 has been introduced in response to long-standing requests from taxpayers and transporters for uninterrupted access and improved reliability, especially during times of system maintenance or unforeseen technical downtimes. The new platform operates in real-time synchronisation with the existing E-Way Bill 1.0 portal, ensuring data consistency and cross-accessibility.

2. Enhanced Features and Inter-Operable Services

The updated system introduces several additional functionalities and inter-operable services, including:

  • Consolidated E-Way Bill Generation
  • Update of Transporter Details
  • Part-A Based E-Way Bill Creation
  • Extension of E-Way Bill Validity
  • Access to All Functionalities Across Both Portals

These features are aimed at streamlining logistics operations, enhancing compliance efficiency, and reducing redundancy in data entry across systems.

3. Dual-System Operation for Business Continuity

Both the existing and the new portals will operate in a mirrored dual-system model. This structure ensures that if one portal experiences downtime, users can continue their operations seamlessly on the other. This redundancy model significantly enhances the reliability and resilience of the E-Way Bill system.

4. API Availability for Seamless Integration

In addition to web-based functionality, all services — including the newly introduced ones — will be accessible via APIs, allowing businesses, ERP systems, and logistics operators to integrate E-Way Bill operations into their internal systems with ease. This API-based access ensures a high degree of automation and operational flexibility.

5. Full Cross-Platform Operability

The new framework ensures complete cross-platform operability — users can generate, update, or manage E-Way Bills on either of the portals without functional limitations. This guarantees an uninterrupted and consistent experience across systems.

6. Conclusion

With the launch of E-Way Bill 2.0, GSTN has taken a significant step towards improving the robustness, accessibility, and user experience of the E-Way Bill system. The dual-portal infrastructure and enhanced features are expected to greatly benefit taxpayers, transporters, and logistics providers, reinforcing the government’s commitment to a seamless digital compliance environment.
